Good morning.
Traders looking for volatility can still find it in regional banks, particularly ones that have been on the short list for facing a depositor exodus. The question is whether or not these stocks are a buy after dropping 75 percent or more… when they could go bankrupt in the span of a few weeks.
One buyer of regional banks is Michael Burry. The investor who shorted the housing market in the mid-2000s is buying in, even after telling investors on Twitter to sell back in January.
Investors may still want to tread lightly – but be willing to make a small bet. A few regional banks have had to cut their dividends, and others will likely follow. But investors who buy at a big discount to book value and don’t face a further depositor exodus can likely score a big win in this space, although it may take months to play out.

Good morning.
While there’s likely more downside ahead for stocks, a rising number of investors are now looking at the prospect of a capitulation day – where stocks drop to such a level that any small increase in buying leads to a strong rally higher.
That could occur this Friday, as a large number of options trades expire. The past few months have seen a disproportionate amount of trading in put options, and as these trades expire, it could light a fire under the markets for a move higher. Given economic conditions, it won’t be a move back to all-time highs, but anything off the low will be seen as a relief.
Traders may want to trade lightly this week, and wait for more economic data to come in before making larger trades in either direction.

Good morning.
A large crack has appeared on the Hernando DeSoto bridge. Spanning the Mississippi River between Tennessee and Arkansas just outside of Memphis, it’s a key part of I-40. Besides the rerouting of truck traffic away from I-40, the shutdown is also impacting traffic on the Mississippi River itself.
The spring thaw brings barge traffic up and down the river’s series of locks and dams. Over 800 barges were impacted by late Friday before the Coast Guard allowed traffic to resume. That’s a large amount of goods that can’t get where it needs to go, and a assign that supply chain issues will continue to wreak havoc with supplies for months to come.
