KABOOM!Good morning.
Retail spending is slowing, as seen from this quarter’s earnings reports from major retailers.  Walgreens (WBA) even added another data point yesterday, as shares were decimated as they drugstore slashed earnings guidance and blamed “cautious consumers.”
But there may be more going on than what the headlines suggest.  Retail spending surged during the pandemic, as did government stimulus.  The resulting inflation has led many to curtail spending, at least on frivolous items.  While consumer spending is still the major driver of the economy, pulling back in this part doesn’t mean a recession.  But it could also do much to help keep a lid on inflation.
Traders may want to hold off on investing in the retail space unless a clear bargain emerges.  And look for other parts of the market that may have been hit too hard lately, such as energy.

Now here’s the rest of the news:

Consolation PrizesGood morning.
While the stock market jumped 6 percent last week off of oversold levels, we are not out of the woods yet.  There’s some good news about the economy, of course.  But there’s also a rising number of companies announcing layoffs.  And the Federal Reserve has committed to raising interest rates even more, which is the primary driver of markets.
With this jump higher, it may be time to take some profits (or losses) on any speculative or leveraged stocks.  And it may be time to consider buying some put options ahead of the next move lower.  And, it’s never a bad idea to consider hedging existing stock positions with tools like covered calls.  That should help mitigate the pain on the next leg lower.

Now here’s the rest of the news:

No One’s Going to Save Us from What Comes Next
After a tumultuous 2021 where Powell and Yellen both insisted that rising inflation was merely “transitory,” inflation got much worse in 2022.  Now, there is a near-certain probability of… [Read Here]

Work From Home2Good morning.
Most investments these days are made with passive investments, such as the millions of Americans who contribute to a 401k plan.  These plans invest in funds. In turn, those funds must periodically rebalance their holdings.
Notably, the Russell index has now done its quarterly rebalancing. A number of poor performing stocks have been booted from the index, while a number of companies that have performed well enough have gained inclusion in the index.  The most notable inclusion?  GameStop (GME), which will move from the Russell 2000 to the Russell 1000, where more passive investors will take a stake (whether they want to or not).  Meme stocks have come to the average 401k plan, and the trend is likely to continue.

Transitory Inflation Takes Hold of the Economy – How Long Will It Last?
High inflation, 2.5x the Fed’s target, is here, right now.  We’re told not to get too concerned over it. “Merely transitory,” the Fed tells us.  Today we ask, how long is transitory?  There’s no easy answer… [Read Here]

“The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary.” –Ashleigh Brilliant

My passion is helping people discover, develop and fulfill their dreams.  In the process, I fulfill my own.

I take great joy in supporting people and organization to consistently create excellence.  By living our dreams, we give birth to things that never would have been, but more importantly, we become more of who we are in the process.

Why is it that we live in the most prosperous time in human history, yet people struggle more than ever to earn the income they want without sacrificing their souls … or even worse … their lives?

This isn’t about starting another side hustle or putting in more time!

Deep down, you know that you’re only a few feet from striking gold.

But no matter how many times you swing the pick-axe, you can’t seem to strike it rich.

Yesterday’s message was clear … the answer is actually pretty simple … You must remember:

What got you HERE won’t get you THERE.

Read that again.

What got you here (to this plateau), won’t get you there (to the mountain top).  Breathe.¹

Thankfulness and Gratitude are also a very big part of THIS…

And as always, stop for a coffee along the way!  😉

Thanks for stopping bye,

¹What does breathe mean? Breathe (pronounced breeth) is a verb and to breathe is the action of inhaling and exhaling air using the lungs. If you replace this dirty air filter, you will be able to breathe better.
